Why This Reference Exists
Printed directories no longer provide a complete picture of Wilmette, yet many of their underlying sources still exist. Cook County keeps parcel and recording records. Voter information follows Illinois access rules. Historical volumes are held in the appointment-only Local History Room at Wilmette Public Library and in Wilmette History Museum collections. We organize the public search tools, office contacts, known coverage dates, fees, and offline access paths for people researching Wilmette.
What Is Collected Here
- Pages by angle: the street directory for address records, the city directory for historical volumes, and the resident lookup for one-person searches
- The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
- Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
- Access rules: what Illinois law opens, what remains closed, and how the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq., works when a record is offline
Limits on Our Role
This is a privately operated reference, not part of the Village of Wilmette, Cook County, Illinois government, any court, or either local history institution. Those limits mean:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Wilmette
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
